Working from home is often portrayed as the best chance of balancing a career and home life but is it what you expected? There are an estimated 4 million people in Britain working from home and four out of 10 homeworkers are women. The reality is if you are balancing work with an unequal share of domestic duties you may be thinking working from home is not quite what you were expecting. Some of the common problems are too many distractions, lack of focus and failing to prioritise the tasks that really make a difference.
Anita Roddick
As a woman working from home we try to cram as much into our seemingly limited time. I know, I have had days where I felt like I didn't have a minute to spare, yet I still felt like I didn't accomplish anything. There are many reasons for this and failure to prioritise and lack of focus can add to the busy-ness. Busy-ness without productivity. Have you ever been worried today about how busy you're going to be tomorrow? Do you get annoyed that the people around you never seem to be as busy as you? You spend your evenings thinking about all the stuff you didn't get done today. You can't pay attention during a conversation because you're too busy thinking about all the things you have to get done. You eat your breakfast and lunch on the go or in the car.
Does this sound like you?
The reality is if you are balancing work with an unequal share of domestic duties you may be thinking working from home is not quite what you were expecting. Some of the common problems are too many distractions, lack of focus and failing to prioritise the tasks that really make a difference.

These day to day distractions can slow down your progress and productivity.
I totally understand women like you — because I’ve also been there and done it. I worked in the corporate world full-time for 30 years whilst juggling my own part-time businesses. I’d rush home from my day job to my home office and still manage to fit in 2 to 3 gym sessions a week and a dinner date with my husband.
